"We function emotionally, intellectually and spiritually at a level of complexity that is often difficult to make sense of on our own"
Stephanie Dowrick, Intimacy and Solitude
Our lives are a complex mix of relationships, emotions and pressures, which are heightened by life events such as bereavement and loss, traumatic experiences, relationship breakdown. These can
strongly affect us, sometimes becoming overwhelming, confusing and very stressful. We can, quite inexplicably feel low, lacking energy and purpose.
How often do we allow ourselves, or have the opportunity, to talk openly about ourselves, or find someone who will truly and genuinely listen, without judging or offering their own experiences as
good advice (as family and friends may do - with the very best of intentions!).
Counselling offers you the opportunity to explore your feelings and perhaps help to understand them. Also to reflect on what is going on for you at the moment, what has happened in the past, what you
would like to happen in the future and how you can influence that process. To understand and make sense of it all – this can be very empowering.
I believe we all have the ‘tools’ within us to overcome what life throws at us but these can be ‘locked up’ by how we have responded to past situations and have become disempowered.
A counselling session normally lasts for 60 mins (75 mins for couples). In that time I will listen to you, perhaps prompting you gently with questions and comments, hopefully moving you towards some
understanding of your feelings and how to cope with them. In the first session it is important that you feel comfortable and able to talk to me and share difficult feelings and emotions with me, and
to know that what you share is confidential.
You are free to choose the number of sessions you have.
